All Nearest Smaller Values on the Hypercube

چکیده
Given a sequence of n elements, the All Nearest Smaller Values (ANSV) problem is to nd, for each element in the sequence, the nearest element to the left (right) that is smaller, or to report that no such element exists. Time and work optimal algorithms for this problem are known on all the PRAM models 3], 5], but the running time of the best previous hypercube algorithm 6] is optimal only when the number of processors p satisses 1 p n=((lg 3 n)(lg lg n) 2). In this paper, we prove that any normal hypercube algorithm requires (n) processors to solve the ANSV problem in O(lg n) time, and we present the rst normal hypercube ANSV algorithm that is optimal for all values of n and p. We use our ANSV algorithm to give the rst O(lg n)-time n-processor normal hypercube algorithms for triangulating a monotone polygon and for constructing a Cartesian tree.

An optimal hypercube algorithm for the all nearest smaller values problem

متن کاملA New Parallel Matrix Multiplication Method Adapted on Fibonacci Hypercube Structure
The objective of this study was to develop a new optimal parallel algorithm for matrix multiplication which could run on a Fibonacci Hypercube structure. Most of the popular algorithms for parallel matrix multiplication can not run on Fibonacci Hypercube structure, therefore giving a method that can be run on all structures especially Fibonacci Hypercube structure is necessary for parallel matr...
متن کاملOptimal Doubly Logarithmic Parallel Algorithms Based on Finding All Nearest Smaller Values
The all nearest smaller values problem is deened as follows. Let A = (a 1 ; a 2 ; : : :; a n) be n elements drawn from a totally ordered domain. For each a i , 1 i n, nd the two nearest elements in A that are smaller than a i (if such exist): the left nearest smaller element a j (with j < i) and the right nearest smaller element a k (with k > i). We give an O(loglog n) time optimal parallel alg...
متن کاملFundamental data movement operations and its applications on a hyper-bus broadcast network
A hyper-bus broadcast network (HBBN) consists of processors only sharing by some global buses, and there are no local links between processors. Based on such an architecture, we will exploit several ecient time parallel algorithms for solving the well-known fundamental data movement problems which had been extensively studied by researchers and widely applied to the ®eld of image processing, d...
متن کاملDrought Monitoring and Prediction using K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm
Drought is a climate phenomenon which might occur in any climate condition and all regions on the earth. Effective drought management depends on the application of appropriate drought indices. Drought indices are variables which are used to detect and characterize drought conditions. In this study, it was tried to predict drought occurrence, based on the standard precipitation index (SPI), usin...
